Renew Haiti

Come to Haiti with us! Check out our Learning Trip to Haiti in June.

On January 12, 2010 a 7.0 earthquake 25km west of the capital of Port-au-Prince left over 200,000 dead, an additional 300,000 injured and 1,000,000 people made homeless, most of whom still live in temporary 'camps of despair' full of shelters pulled together with sticks and tarps.

In May 2010 a vision team, in partership with Help One Now, traveled to Haiti to see the devastation first hand (photos) and to form partnerships to see renewal in Haiti, not just for the next few years, but long term renewal.

Partnering with Help One Now

In 2010 we partnered with Help One Now in launching the We Have Not Forgotten campaign. Through this campaign we are partnering with Help One Now and other organizations to raise $100,000 to:

  • rescue orphans by building an orphanage in Petionvillle (Yaveh Shamma Home is now complete!)
  • restore housing in Haiti by building homes (have built many already!)
  • renew Haiti's access to clean water by repairing and building water wells (have seen at least 10 of these so far!)

Through this campaign the members of New City Church generously contributed the first $20,000 in a matching donation to kick-start the funding.

Since that time we have seen wonderful partnerships form with other organizations and local Haitian leaders to see homes built, clean water provided, children sponsored, education provided and micro-business loans provide a way for new economic opportunities.

Partnering with Haitian Leaders

We have been blessed with wonderful local Haitian partners.

Pastor Jean-Alix Paul oversees multiple churches in Haiti, three kids homes, and is a true community leader. With Pastor Jean-Alix we have partnered to renew communities through housing, child sponsorships, health clinics and clean water wells.

Pastor Gaetan Alcegaire leads a church, orphanage and school in Petion-Ville. When the earthquake struck he and his family was caring for 14 orphans and took in an additional 16 following the earthquake. With the biggest smile possible he has tirelessly served his community, his congregation and the children that God has given he and his family to care for.

Other wonderful local Haitian partners are Pastor Jean St-Cyr who oversees a church in the larget tent city in Haiti, and Junior Bataille who is leading renewal through business development.

Partnering in Prayer for Haiti

Without a movement of the Spirit of God in our own hearts and in the hearts of Haitians, our efforts will be frustrated, in vain and will lack the joy of celebrating the renewal of a generation of Haitians. We need men and women praying for spiritual, social and physical renewal in Haiti. Please join us in praying for such a movement.
